These are my student play-down recordings of my charts when I was a CAP (Composing & Arranging Program) student at the Dick Grove School of Music.
We wrote a chart a week for many runs during the year long program. Our first charts were for smaller ensembles and allowed us to pull together all we'd learned from Dick Grove up to that point. Week after week we all got better as we gained experienced writing for real musicians and a variety of styles and ensembles. Dick Grove critiqued every single student chart and his feedback from the stand/studio was a tremendous learning experience; often showing us how to make changes from the stand that could improve the performance, harmonization, tempo and/or conducting.
